Soybean line MON87705 derives from the transformation of meristematic tissues of cultivar A3525 by means of Agrobacterium tumefaciens technique.
The plasmid vector PV-GMPQ/HT4404 contains two T-DNA: the first carries the cp4epsps transgene (aroA) and fragments of the FAD2 and FATB1 genes; the second carries fragments of the FAD2 and FATB1 genes in antisense orientation.

Characteristics of the modification

The genome of MON87705 soybean contains the DNA sequences present in the two T-DNAs.
As a consequence, the GM plant shows a minor expression of the FAD2 and FATB1 enzymes which results in an altered content of fatty acids with a considerable increase in oleic acid, a monosaturated fatty acid. In addition, the soybean MON87705 expresses la CP4 EPSPS protein which allows the plant to resist glyphosate.

Purpose of the modification

To produce a soybean variety with high oleic fatty acid and low saturated fatty acids, capable of tolerating glyphosate based herbicides.
